Zack Greer led the way with 4 goals and 1 assist as the Edmonton Rush (6-5) defeated the Rochester Knighthawks (4-6) 11-9 in a rematch of the 2012 NLL Championship.
Greer opened the scoring for the Rush as Edmonton got off to a hot start outscoring the Knighthawks 5-1 after the first quarter and maintaining a 7-3 lead heading into halftime.
Rochester battled back, outscoring Edmonton 4-1 in the third quarter and cutting the Rush’s lead to a one goal margin.
The Rush would answer the Knighthawks comeback, including a pair of tallies from Greer in the final frame to confirm the win for Edmonton.
Rookie Mark Matthews continued his fantastic freshman campaign with 3 goals and 2 assists in the win. Matthews 31 goals this season rank him second amongst all NLL scorers.
Ryan Ward led all Rush players in points with six. The veteran’s 39 assists on the season leads Edmonton offensively and ranks fourth league-wide.
Rush goaltender Aaron Bold turned aside 24 of 32 shots in a strong effort from the Edmonton defense. Rochester goalie Matt Vinc stopped 36 of 47 shots faced in the loss.
The game marks the fifth loss in six home games for Rochester this season.
Cody Jamieson led all scorers on the night with seven points. Jamieson leads Rochester in goals (20) and points (52). Dan Dawson notched five points for Rochester while Mike Accursi had four points.
Recent Rochester additions Scott Self and Jimmy Purves were both in the line-up versus the Rush. Self recorded 6 loose balls on the evening while Purves picked up 3 of his own.
The Rush will be in action next weekend when they travel to Buffalo to take on the Bandits in a cross-division battle Saturday, March 23rd at 7:30 p.m.
Rochester will return to action when they host the Toronto Rock on Saturday, March 30th at 7:30 p.m. The Knighthawks previously lost at home versus the Rock dropping a 11-7 decision.
