Toronto Rock General Manager Terry Sanderson has announced the re-signing of veteran forward Josh Sanderson to a 1-year agreement. The contract is pending league approval.
The Orangeville, Ontario native will be entering his 18th season in the National Lacrosse League in 2015. Sanderson has spent time with Rochester, Albany, San Jose, Calgary and Boston along with two stints in Toronto during his NLL career.
The 37-year old offensive star surpassed Gary Gait last season to move into 4th on the NLL career point list with 1213. The only players in league history to have scored more points than Sanderson are John Tavares, Colin Doyle and John Grant Jr. His 794 assists have him in 3rd place all-time, trailing only Tavares and Doyle.
Over his illustrious career, Sanderson has won two Champion’s Cups (2005 Toronto & 2009 Calgary). He was also named the championship game MVP in 2009 recording 2 goals and 3 assists in Calgary’s 12-10 win over New York. In 2010, the playmaking forward was the only player in the league to eclipse the 100-point mark as he led the NLL in scoring with 104 points while with Calgary.
Sanderson has proved he can still get it done and is a valuable piece of Toronto’s dynamic offence, scoring 70 points in 2014 and finishing 21st overall in NLL scoring. He is a part of one of the most dangerous trios of offensive lefties in the game along with Stephan Leblanc (88 points, 7th overall in 2014) and Colin Doyle (72 points, 18th overall in 2014).
The Rock have also re-signed transition player Jimmy Purves to a 1-year agreement pending league approval. Purves was originally signed as a free agent by the Rock last season.
Toronto Rock training camp will begin on Saturday, November 29th at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, Ontario. The Rock will announce their full training camp schedule, including exhibition games, in the coming weeks.
