Yesterday in Major Series Lacrosse we saw a player-for-player trade that involved two goaltenders. Former NLL goalie of the year Mike Poulin was traded to the Six Nations Chiefs in exchange for Evan Kirk who is sent to the Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks.
The Kodiaks will also get the Chiefs 2016 second round draft pick. Poulin has played with the Kodiaks before he was traded in 2011, when Kirk had been backing him up and Kitchener decided they wanted Kirk to be their starter.
When Poulin was traded to the Chiefs two years ago, the Kodiaks got Brendan Thenhaus, Kyle Schmezele and goaltender Jeff Powless. Now they end up with Poulin back in the fold.
Last season with the Chiefs Poulin posted a goals against average of 7.57 in over 700 minutes. He spent his first season in Kitchener and parts of his second season. In his first season, 2010, he had a GAA of 8.11. Last season Kirk was the starter for the Kodiaks with a GAA of 8.61 in 689 minutes.
His career GAA is a very respectable 9.55 in three seasons so far. Kirk is also the starting goaltender with the Minnesota Swarm in the NLL.
