The Toronto Rock reshaping continues. After the retirement of Colin Doyle, and the addition of several field players to their training camp roster, the Rock traded veteran forward Kevin Ross to the Rochester Knighthawks on Saturday right before the start of the pre season.
“It’s such a tough place to come in as a visiting player. I have been doing it for years. It’s definitely one of the best lacrosse markets going,” said Ross in a press release. “It’s a class organization from Curt on down. I have nothing but excitement.”
Ross has tallied 135 goals and 195 assists over his nine year career in the National Lacrosse League. The 31-year-old will slot in on the left side of the Knighthawks offense, which is more inexperienced and young than the right side. Led by Cody Jamieson and Cory Vitarelli, along with players competing to make the roster such as Kyle Jackson, Dan Lomas, and Dylan Goddard.
The veteran forward has bounced around between Toronto, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Minnesota. Ross was originally drafted in the first round of 2007.
“I think I can bring a larger body to that left side to help make some room for guys like Cody (Jamieson), carrying the ball,” said Ross. “At the same time, Rochester has undertaken a youth movement as well. I think I can bring a veteran voice, a veteran presence in the locker room. That is a piece of value I can bring to the table.”
Ross is already in action this weekend in the Knighthawks’ pre season matches against New England and Buffalo.
