The Rochester Knighthawks took over second place in the Eastern Conference last night with their 12-8 win over the Toronto Rock. The Rock split the weekend after defeating Buffalo the day before.
Mike Accursi led the Hawks with three goals and two assists while Dan Dawson and Cory Vitarelli scored four points each. Joe Walters also picked up two assists.
On the Toronto side, Colin Doyle picked up two goals and four assists while Garrett Billings had three goals and three assists. Nick Rose made 31 saves on 41 shots while Knighthawks goaltender Matt Vinc made 47 on 55.
Rochester scored four straight in the first and led 4-0, leaving Toronto in a hole out of the gate. It was 5-3 Rochester at the half but the Hawks just kept scoring and Toronto struggled to stay in it.
Rochester had just one power play and they did not score while Toronto went 2-7, not capitalizing on as many chances as they would have liked.
Toronto scored three straight goals late in the fourth but it was put away on a Rochester goal from Brad Self on the empty net. Next weekend the Knighthawks host the slumping Philadelphia Wings while Toronto travels to Rochester again.
