The Peterborough Lakers head into Iroquois Park Arena tonight to avenge Brooklin after they fell to the Redmen 14-12 in overtime last Thursday. John Grant Jr tallied an impressive 7 goals and 2 assists in his season debut for the Lakers but it was out shined by Shawn Williams double digit point night with 2 goals and 8 assists for an incredible 10 points.
In the previous match, the Redmen held the Lakers to a 4-1 1st period and a 9-3 second but allowed the Lakers to claw back and force an overtime after scoring 8 goals in the 3rd period. Brooklin will look to shut down Grant Jr. but as many know, that is not an easy task. If the Redmen want to come out on top for the second time in two games, they will need to be able to hold off the powerful offense of the Lakers. Alongside John Grant Jr., the Lakers have Tracey Kelusky and Mark Steenhuis of the Buffalo Bandits and Peterborough natives, Shawn and Scott Evans.
The Redmen will be able to last in an offensive battle against the Lakers as they have great scoring depth. The 16 year veteran Shawn Williams leads in goals, assists and points for the Redmen but he has not been alone on the game sheet. Just like in years past, Williams has been able to find and feed the shooters of Brooklin game in and out. Williams leads with 6 goals in 3 games but 3 other Redmen follow behind with 4 goals; Derek Hopcroft, Matt Holman and Caleb Wiles.
No discussions of a goalie controversy in Brooklin as NLL teammate of Shawn Williams with the Edmonton Rush, Aaron Bold has started all 3 games thus far in the 2012 season. In his 3 starts, Bol has recorded 2 wins while posting a 7.44 GAA.
The case for goaltenders is a different story in Peterborough as currently 3 goalies try and battle it out for the starting gig for the Lakers. Although the goalies have not struggled this season, but no goaltender has been able to break away from the pack and take helm of the starting role.
Look to see a high scoring game with two high powered offenses going toe to toe tonight at 8pm in Whitby.
