Langley gains 3-0 strangle hold over Coquitlam

On Thursday night the Langley Thunder and Coquitlam Adanacs played game three of their playoff series. Langley had a 2-0 lead in the series heading into game three and were looking to get a strangle hold on the series with another win. While the Adanacs desperately needed a win heading into game three.

Langley would strike first in this game as Alex Turner scored just three minutes into the game to give Langley a 1-0 lead. The rest of this period was pretty quiet as neither team was able to produce much offense. Langley would head into the second period with a 1-0 lead.

In the second period the offenses woke up as Langley extended their lead on a power play goal from Adam Jones to give the Thunder a 2-0 lead. Coquitlam would answer back with consecutive goals from Daryl Veltman and Jesse Guerin in order to tie the game 2-2. Langley would answer with a pair of goals of their own to regain the lead as Garrett Billings continued his strong  play notching a goal followed by a goal from Shayne Jackson to give the Thunder a 4-2 lead. Former Thunder player Brett Hickey would cut the lead to one as he scored to make it 4-3. Langley once again would extend their lead as Adam Jones scored his second goal of the game while Shayne Jackson added a shorthanded goal to put the Thunder up 6-3. As the period began to wind to a close Brett Hickey would continue to be a thorn in the side for his former team as he scored to pull Coquitlam within two.  Langley would quickly regain their three goal lead as Dane Dobbie scored to put the Thunder up 7-4 at the end of two periods of play.

In the third period Coquitlam would fight back in this game Matthew Dinsdale scored followed by a pair of goals by Brett Hickey to tie the game. Hickey was on fire on Thursday as he had four goals in the game. Just like the last two games in this playoff series the Thunder once again were able to dig deep in the third as Scott Johnston scored the go ahead goal for Langley putting them up 8-7. Langley would seal their victory with an Athan Iannucci shorthanded goal giving the Thunder the 9-7 victory and a 3-0 stranglehold on this series.

Coquitlam will need to go all out in game four or the Thunder will sweep them. The Thunder seem to have the Adanac’s number as they have been able to find ways to win in the third period in all three games in this series while the Adanac’s have struggled to deal with Langley’s offense and constantly have found themselves fighting from behind.
