A little after a week after the Major League Lacrosse Supplemental Draft, the New York Lizards have signed goaltender Devon Wills from the free agent player pool. Wills will become the first female goalie in the history of MLL.
“This is a huge honor,” said Wills via press release. “It was an honor to be considered and I have a lot of respect for all the guys in the supplemental draft. Now comes the time for me to compete and take my chance to fight for a spot on the first team.”
Wills played college lacrosse at Dartmouth and is a two-time national champion with the USA women’s team. She is currently an assistant coach at the University of Southern California as a defensive coordinator for the women’s team.
The starting goalie for the Lizards is Drew Adams while last season his main backup was Joe Geagon. The only other goalies on roster include Joe Marra and Sean Brady, giving Wills a good chance to make an opportunity for herself.
