Rookie Jeremy Noble scores twice and records five assists in his first game.
Last night the Colorado Mammoth (5-5) defeated the Minnesota Swarm (3-7) 12-8. It was the Mammoth’s second victory in the last seven games after starting 3-0.
Early in the week the Mammoth made a trade to get Jeremy Noble from the Knighthawks. It proved to be a huge pick up as Noble would register (2G/5A/10LB) in his first game. But he wasn’t the only one. John Grant Jr, (2G/5A). Drew Westervelt (2G/4A) seemed to be back on track, and Adam Jones (4G/1A) led the way for Colorado.
First quarter was up and back with the offense on both sides as the teams combined for six goals and ended in a 3-3 tie. After Grant’s goal at the :56 of the second, defense took over as both goalies held the opposition scoreless until Colorado scored the final 3 goals of the half in a span of 3:17. The Swarm chipped away at ther Mammoth lead only outscoring them by a goal and trailed 10-7.
Defense took over in the final quarter. Minnesota’s defense played strong keeping them in the game, but Colorado’s defense was playing the same way, shutting down the Swarm offense only allowing them 1 goal.
The Swarm played without Callum Crawford who has been injured the last couple weeks, and Kiel Matisz, who suffered an arm injury Saturday night.
With the win, Colorado moved to 5-5 and stays only a half game out of first, while the Swarm falls to 3-7 losing both games this weekend and dropping to the basement of the east. Swarm are just 2 games out of a playoff spot with eight games left in their season.
Colorado will visit Vancouver Saturday night 10pm. While Minnesota will travel to Buffalo (team they trail for playoffs) for a 7:30 matchup Saturday.
