After a big overtime win against Rochester last week, the Boston Cannons hoped to continue their strong efforts against the Charlotte Hounds tonight at American Legion Stadium in Charlotte, NC. Cannons goalie Jordan Burke led the night with 29 saves, and Boston came away with a dominating 19-13 victory.
In their first meeting against each other on April 26th, the Cannons came up short by one goal, and were looking for revenge Saturday Night. Will Manny scored five goals followed by a four goal effort from Kevin Buchanan, earning him the Coca-Cola Player of the Game.
The Cannons had a strong showing from the very beginning. Charlotte’s Mike Sawyer got the Hounds on the board, butRob Emery found the equalizer moments later. Long pole midfielder Scott Ratliff then ripped a shot behind the 2 point line to make it 3-1 before John Haus brought Charlotte within one heading in to the second quarter.
The Cannons opened up the second quarter with another 2-point goal to make it a 5-2 game. The momentum stayed with Boston for four more goals to take a 9-2 lead after back to back tallies from Davey Emala. Will Manny added his second of the night before half time. The Cannons were up 10-4 heading in to the locker room.
Coming in to the third quarter, Charlotte made a goalie change, but gave up a goal on the first shot he was faced with. Manny scored two in a row, followed by Buchanan who added his second of the game to make it 13-4 Cannons. Manny and Adams both added tallies to make it 15-17 going in to the fourth and final quarter.
The Hounds made an effort to come back with two goals to make it a six goal game, but by that time Boston had pulled too far away, outscoring Charlotte the entire game. Each team would score one more time in the final few second, but the Cannons came away with a dominating 19-13 performance. This is Boston’s second straight win and brings them back to .500 on the season.
The Cannons return home on May 30th where they take on the Florida Launch at Gillette Stadium at 6:00pm.
