In a Mann Cup where coaches were suspended and controversy surrounded potential doping, there was a positive story that came out of the Peterborough Lakers 2012 Mann Cup victory.
That positive was goaltender Mike Thompson, who came in and won the Lakers four straight games. The Lakers goalie had been Tyler Carlson when Peterborough lost the first two games of the series to the Langley Thunder. Thompson replaced Carlson midway through Game Three to lead them to a win, and he never looked back.
Thompson, who recently retired from the National Lacrosse League, put up some of the best lacrosse goaltending performances in Mann Cup history to eliminate some of the shadow of confusion that clouded the Mann Cup.
This was Thompson’s last game for the Lakers and in MSL, so he retires on top, ending his career stopping seventeen third period shots from the Langley Thunder to help the Lakers hoist the Mann Cup.
