MLL: Cannons Look to Rebound Against Bayhawks

For a team looking to get back on track, playing the Chesapeake Bayhawks is not a good thing right now. The ‘Hawks are 3-0 on the season and goaltender Kip Turner has a goals against average just over four goals. Meanwhile, the Boston Cannons are 0-3, their worst start in team history.

The entire roster is back for the Cannons with Ari Sussman back from last week, but Jordan Burke remains out. There is a rivalry here, as the Bayhawks have defeated the Cannons in the MLL semi finals in two of the last three years. In between, the Cannons beat the Bayhawks with a goal with one second left.

The Bayhawks didn’t need to make many moves in the off season but they still improved in the draft, though those college players are not yet active. They added Casey Powell, who will probably not be in Boston this week, but he will be in the lineup at some point.

Ben Rubeor has been the hottest player in the league, scoring seven goals two weeks ago and then four against Ohio last week for the Bayhawks. The Cannons defense, which has struggled, will be hard pressed to stop him.

Meanwhile, the Cannons offense seems to be in a better rhythm with Paul Rabil and Matt Poskay picking up the slack, while Sussman and Mike Stone has played well. However, they probably need more out of Kevin Buchanan and Colin Briggs.

One big concern in this game is faceoffs. Adam Rand is dominating for the Bayhawks while Chris Eck and Chris Mattes have struggled all season. Can the Cannons rebound, or will the Bayhawks dominate?
