In this week’s NCAA action, several MLL draft picks proved their worth against fierce competition.
Senior – Marcus Holman – Attack – Ohio Machine – North Carolina Tar Heels
The 12th overall draft pick in the 2013 MLL Draft by the Ohio Machine put on quite a show for Tar Heel fans this week. The Baltimore, MD native recorded eight points (2G, 6A) in a victory over Brown (5-3) on March 27th. His six assists matched his career high and fell just short of his personal best by two points.
On Saturday, the Tar Heels captain led his team to an exciting 11-10 OT win over Johns Hopkins (6-3). He tallied two goals and two assists and is the team leader in points with 47 (24G, 23A). Holman moved into seventh all time in team scoring with 176 points after the victory on Saturday.
Next action for Holman and the Tar Heels is April 6th when they travel to Virginia to take on the Cavaliers (5-5) in an ACC matchup; game time 1 PM.
Senior – Will Manny – Attack – Boston Cannons – UMass Minuteman
Cannon’s 14th overall draft pick; Will Manny picked up one goal and one assist in a tough 7-6 loss to St. Joseph’s (5-6) in their last game. The 2013 Tewaarton Award Nominee has had a difficult season thus far, missing five games due to injury dating back to February 16th.
The UMass Minuteman (5-5) and Massapequa, NY native has registered 2.2 PPG this season, recording six goals and five assists.
UMass’s next game takes place March 6th at 1 pm when they visit Towson (6-5) in a CAA battle.
Senior – Brian Megill – Defense – Denver Outlaws – Syracuse Orange
The defender out of Clark, NJ was picked seventh overall by the Denver Outlaws in this year’s draft and has been an anchor on defense for the Orange. In a 17-5 win over Canisius (1-7), Megill recorded one shot, two groundballs, two caused turnovers and two penalty minutes for the Syracuse Orange.
Thus far this season, Megill has played eight games, tallied one goal, three shots, 24 groundballs and 16 caused turnovers.
Megill looks to lead the Orange on defense in their next game versus Princeton (6-2) when they visit the Tigers on April 6th, game time 1 PM.
Senior – Logan Schuss – Attack – Ohio Machine – Ohio State Buckeyes
The Ohio Machine selected the Ladner, BC native in the second round (11th overall) in the 2013 MLL draft. He recorded just one goal versus the surging Loyola Greyhounds (8-2) in a 9-4 loss in Ohio’s (6-3) most recent game.
Schuss has scored 31 points (21G, 10A) in nine games played this season and sits just three goals back (123G) of the school record which is held by Joel Dalgarno.
The Buckeyes and Schuss look to bounce back after their loss to Loyola when they host Hobart College (4-5) March 6th – 12 PM in a pivotal Eastern College Athletic Conference matchup.
