The MLL season is almost over and therefore, thus, most of the rookies have almost completed their first year at the professional level. While some players have played almost a full season, some are still making their pro debuts and adjusting to the speed of the pro game. Here is the week in review for every rookie in the MLL after Week 13.
Florida Launch
Kieran McArdle locked up his rookie of the year candidacy two weeks ago with a ridiculous 10 point effort. This past weekend, he had two points in the loss and has 45 points on the season. Joe Meurer continues to be a big part of the defense and he has 10 ground balls on the season. Chris LaPierre scored his fourth goal of the season this past weekend in the team’s one goal loss. He also has 14 ground balls this season to go along with his four goals.
Rochester Rattlers
Jordan Wolf has come back nicely from his hiatus in the middle of July. After putting up seven points two weeks ago, he added two more to his tally in this week’s loss to the Machine. He has 28 points in only six games played! Mark Cockerton had four goals this past weekend and now has 22 points, all of which are goals. Miles Thompson has recorded a points in each of the last two weeks and has 13 points on the season for the Rattlers. John LoCascio has been a strong defender for the Rattlers and a ground ball machine. He added two ground balls this past weekend and has 34 in eight games played.
Ohio Machine
Tom Schreiber missed this past weekend’s game against the Rattlers as he confirmed in a tweet that he has a broken hand. It seems as if his season may be done. If it is, he finished his rookie year with 20 points in 10 games for the Machine. After scoring four goals on July 19, Derek Maltz has been shutout in his last two games against Denver and Rochester.
New York Lizards
Joe Fletcher scored his first career goal this past weekend in the Lizards’ 11-10 victory over the Charlotte Hounds. Fletcher also had two ground balls in the victory and he has 29 on the season.
Denver Outlaws
Colin Dunster scored a goal this past weekend and has three of his five points in the last two games. Brett Hiken is still seeing spot duty at the facoff X and is 17-of-54 so far this season. In Thursday’s game he had three ground balls and he has nine on the season.
Boston Cannons
Rob Emery had an assist this past weekend has 11 points heading into the last game of the season. Jack Reilly and Scott McWilliams are both fitting in on defense for the Cannons and both appeared this weekend in helping the Cannons to a one goal victory.
Charlotte Hounds
Justin Ward continued his streak of three point games and had three assists for the second straight game as well. He has 32 points on the seasonin nine games played. Mike Chanenchuk was shut out for the first time of his career this past weekend. He has 14 points on the season. Pat Laconi had three ground balls in the loss this past weekend and continues to provide depth at SSDM. Michael Ehrhardt and Henry Lobb combined for four ground balls this past weekend and continue to find themselves in the defensive rotation. Ehrhardt and Lobb have 18 and 11 ground balls on the season respectively. Lastly, Brendan Fowler has gotten more time at the faceoff X and is now 33-of-79 on the season. This past weekend, he was 8-of-23 and had three ground balls as he was schooled by Lizards’ faceoff specialist Greg Gurenlian.
Chesapeake Bayhawks
Mark McNeill played in his third game this past weekend and has five ground balls so far while being a gritty, tough defender who is finding his way onto the team’s SSDM unit. Meanwhile, Jack Runkel made his MLL debut this past weekend and he made one save and allowed one goal in a little over five minutes of playing time.
