All four Major League Lacrosse teams were in action last weekend. Here are the three stars as Ohio, Boston, Rochester and New York all picked up victories.
3) Tom Schreiber (Ohio) – 1 goal, 7 assists
Tom Schreiber was the catalyst for the Ohio offense in a big 18-12 win at Denver Friday. The Princeton alum scored his goal in the fourth quarter while dishing seven assists for eight points, the high in Major League Lacrosse over last weekend’s four games. Schreiber dished two first-half assists then had a goal and five assists in the second half alone. Over the final 30 minutes, the Machine turned an 8-7 halftime deficit into a runaway 18-12 victory. Schreiber found five different goal scorers as part of his seven assists, including Jimmy Bitter three times. Schreiber now has 29 points on the season (fifth in the MLL) behind 13 goals and 16 assists (tied for the league lead). Ohio has now won three straight games to improve to 4-3 on the season. The 18 goals were the most allowed by Denver this year.
2) Rob Pannell (New York) – 5 goals, 2 assists
Rob Pannell continued his strong play by tallying seven points in a 21-16 win over Charlotte as the Lizards improved to 7-0 on the season. Pannell has eclipsed four points in each of his last six games and has at least three points in every game this season. On Saturday, Pannell didn’t record a point until the final minute of the second quarter. He scored twice in a 40-second span to turn a 9-7 lead into an 11-7 advantage at the half. The Cornell alum scored the game’s next two goals, 6:03 and 10:05 into the third quarter, then added three more points the rest of the way. In total, Pannell had a hand in seven of the team’s final 12 goals as the Lizards thwarted off a fourth-quarter Hounds comeback attempt. Pannell is now tied for the MLL lead with 35 points behind 19 goals and 16 assists.
1) Jordan Wolf (Rochester) – 6 goals, 1 assist
Also tied for the MLL lead in points, Jordan Wolf scored six goals and dished an assist to lead Rochester to a big 15-11 win over Chesapeake to improve to 4-3 on the year. The Duke alum set the tone by scoring the Rattlers’ first three goals then added a third-quarter tally and two of Rochester’s final three goals as the Rattlers broke an 11-11 tie with the game’s final four goals. The seven points were a season high while he’s eclipsed four points every game this season. He’s up to 35 points on the season (tied with Pannell) behind 21 goals (second in the MLL) and 14 assists.
