The Ohsweken Demons (1-0) used a five goal fourth quarter to help secure a 11-9 win over the Niagara Lock Monsters (0-2) in their season opener. The Demons trailed 8-6 heading into the final frame, but managed to hold the Lock Monsters to just one goal in the fourth.
Tom Montour led the way for Ohsweken with a pair goals, four assists for six points. Four of those points came in the fourth quarter to help lift the Demons to victory.
Rodd Squire, Josh Johnson and Travis Hill finished the afternoon with three points each.
Netminder Jake Henhawk made 28 saves en route to earning the victory.
On the other side of the floor, Niagara’s Corey Fowler netted a hat trick and two assists for a team high of five points.
Rookie Mark Vradenburg had a huge afternoon chipping in with a hat trick of his own and an assist. The Nepean,ON native now has four goals and an assist in his rookie campaign.
Devon Sartor and Brendon Thenhaus also tallied two goals and two assists in the Niagara loss.
In his first CLax start, Zak Boychuk made 37 stops in the losing effort. Boychuk was selected first overall this past November in the 2014 CLax draft.
The Demons look to move to 2-0 on the year Friday night as they host the 1-0 Southwest Cyclops at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.
The Lock Monsters hope to avoid going 0-3 to start the 2015 season as they head to Paris,ON to take on the very same Cyclops on Saturday night.
