Coming off of a 7-6 win over Siena College, Hofstra hosts Marist College in another non-conference matchup Tuesday night in Hempstead.
With the win, Hofstra improved to 7-3 overall and is ranked at 14 in the Warrior Media poll. Marist is 3-7 overall after a three-game losing skid. Looking at the numbers Hofstra averages 9.12 goals per game while Marist averages 11.50 GPG.
Hofstra red-shirt sophomore Korey Hendrickson scored four goals and the game-winning goal en route to the Pride’s last victory over Siena. Junior Mike Malave scored two for Hofstra while freshman Nick Altmann scored his first collegiate goal. Junior goalkeeper Chris Selva made 13 saves against the Saints and has a .517 save percentage on the year. Freshman Kris Clarke won 7-of-17 face-offs for the Pride.
Marist fell to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponent Detroit 12-11 this past Saturday. Juniors Mike Begley and Colin Joka had hat tricks but were not enough as Detroit overcame a 6-3 Marist advantage in the first quarter and outscoring the Red Foxes 5-3 in the second half to earn the victory. Sophomore Dominic Montemurro won 20-of-26 face-offs in the loss while junior goalkeeper Dave Scarcello made eight saves in net for the Red Foxes and has a .475 save percentage on the year.
Players to watch on Marist include freshman J.D. Recor, the leading scorer for the Red Foxes with 33 points (10G, 23A), Joseph Radin with 32 points (26G, 6A), Joka with 27 points (23G, 4A), Begley with 25 points (17G, 8A) and Drew Nesmith with 23 points (21G, 2A).
Tuesday night’s game will be the first meeting between Hofstra and Marist.
Both teams will face-off Tuesday night at James M. Shuart Stadium at 7pm.
