The Notre Dame womens lacrosse team will travel to Chapel Hill, North Carolina this weekend for a matchup against the Tar Heels.
The Fighting Irish are 2-1 overall this season, and are looking to improve their record this weekend. They are going to bring their best game against North Carolina, because they know that the competition will be fierce. They have a few standouts this season, including freshman attacker, Cortney Fortunato. She was the No. 1 recruit for her class, and Fortunato is the type of player who stands out because she contributes to play from all over the field.
The Tar Heels are the reigning national champions and were rated the overall best women’s lacrosse program in the nation. They have a great reputation and have the best ranked recruiting class for the 2014 season. The team is still undefeated and they have made all of their matches look easy. The average margin of defeat is by 13-plus points. They have an aggressive defense and great attackers. Senior Abbey Friend holds the team record of 19 goals this season, and is hoping to improve every game. She says that their team truly plays as one, and she cannot wait to see what they can accomplish.
This game is definitely going to be a great one to watch, as both teams have great players, and awesome first-year recruits that are really stepping up and making names for themselves on each team. It will be interesting to see the point margin after this game, and to see if NC can keep their undefeated record.
