The unofficial start of the NLL season started last week with the draft. New England was picking eighth.
With their selection, the Blackwolves drafted Dan Lintner from Cornell University with their first pick (8th overall). Lintner is a 5’9 185 pound forward who doesn’t mind getting dirty.
Below is just a little bit about the newest Blackwolve from the Cornell website.
After seeing minimal action during his first two seasons with the Big Red, Lintner finished his career ranked 20th in Big Red history for career goals (88) and is seventh overall for career man-up goals (17).
One of the best finishers in the country, Lintner burst onto the scene during the 2014 season, and finished the year ranked seventh in the nation and first in the Ivy League in goals per game (2.94 gpg.). He was an honorable mention All-American and a second-team All-Ivy selection after registering 10 hat tricks to finish the year with 47 goals, good for 10th all-time in Cornell’s single-season goals list. He also ranked second on the team in points (47) and sixth in the Ivy League in points per game (3.25). Lintner led the team and the conference in man-up goals (9) and also registered one man-down goal on the season. Following his senior year in 2015, Lintner earned the second Ivy accolade of his career with an honorable mention selection. After a slow start, he posted seven hat tricks on the season and finished the year ranked third on the team with 30 goals.
Lintner is educated in the box game. Prior to his arrival at Cornell, playing three seasons for the Whitby Warriors of the Ontario Junior A Lacrosse League, leading the Warriors to the 2013 Minto Cup and earning tournament MVP honors after leading the way in both goals (16) and points (31) in seven games. He also led the Warriors in scoring during the 2010-11 season and helped the team to the playoffs. Lintner was a three-time selection to the Ontario Box all-star team, while winning four Ontario Box championships and three Team Ontario Lacrosse Box Gold championships.
When asked about reaching this stage in his lacrosse career, Lintner said, “It’s a dream come true growing up, and it finally happened,” Lintner went on to say, “When you start playing lacrosse, this is what you want to do. You want to get here. It’s pretty exciting.”
Lintner will be playing along side the likes of Garrett Billings, Andrew Suitor, Quinn Powless (last years selection but a knee injury ended his 2014 campaign). Stage one is to get through training camp and make the cut.
Lintner shouldn’t have any problem making the team as he adds speed, determination and grit. He is the type of player who isn’t afraid of some bumps and bruises if it means to finish with a goal.
