Genesee beat Delhi 17-5 in a game that was big for Region III standings. Last year Delhi won and that win helped get them into the national tournament this year GCC showed they are a top team in the league. Freshman Jake Bomberry had six goals and one assist.
Nassau took on Genesee in a down pour of rain Saturday at Mitchell field. After a close first Nassau poured it on in the second transfer Josh Byrne showed to be a great new addition. The first ever Canadian to play for the loins but showed that he is a great shooter passer and can also dodge. Josh is also no slack in the riding game laying the body as well laying out some nice checks getting the ball back for his team. Brandon Watson showed his shooting skills and his a nice duo with Josh and Matt Byrne’s who is not related to Josh. Chris Martinez is one of the best midfielders and has great talents with his stick. It is tough to get the ball from him he can feed and score goals and Chris is a very quick dodger. Alex Patton dominated the face off x all game long for Nassau. While GCC star of the game was Jake Bomberry who had five assists. Nassau won 17-8.
Herkimer got a close 10-9 win over Dean College. Herkimer was on the road but got big games from second year players Kyle Lee (3G,2A) and Jeremy Mowery (3G,1A).Newcomers Ryan Fisher and Issac Miranda also played huge roles in the offensive game. Sophomore goalie Austin Loefell played the whole game for the first time in his colligate career making twenty saves which played a big role in getting his team the win. Next game Herkimer will face Broome.
OCC picked up the teams 91st win while winning big yet again while taking on Harford at home. Brine Rice, Nicholas Garbarino and Kyle Killen led the way on offense. Sam Watts had another string game at face offs while Doug Jamieson and Zach Lohman along with Seth DeLisle also took draws. Tyson Bell showed why yet again why he is the top defender in Juco and won player of the week honors. The Lazars will travel down to Baltimore to take down Essex in a also top match up between top Juco programs
Game to Watch this week
Monroe vs. Genesee March 18th- These teams have to fighting for the top spot in Region III the last few years. Delhi came out as the second seed last year but GCC handle them no problem last week. If Genesee can beat Monroe puts them in a great spot be hide OCC.
ASA vs. Anne Arundel March 19th– ASA started off 0-3 but got a 15-10 win over Ocean Community College this past weekend. Anne Arundel is ranked 4th in NJCAA if ASA wins it can really rock the standings.
Onondaga vs. Essex- March 21st– also a top match up the last few years these teams have met sometimes twice in one season. OCC has beat Essex even in the 2010 and 2011 championships. Essex did give OCC their second to last loss in a hundred something games. Can they do it again who knows?
