The National Lacrosse League today announced George Daniel will be stepping down as NLL Commissioner. Daniel has served as Commissioner since January 2009.
“It has been a honor and pleasure serving as NLL Commissioner. I feel that this is the right time for a change for me personally and professionally to explore other opportunities,” Daniel said. “The NLL is now in a great place and positioned for tremendous growth in the near future.”
Daniel continues as Commissioner until a successor is announced. Upon appointment of the new Commissioner, Daniel will serve the NLL as Counsel to the league. Daniel will be joining sports attorneys Bob Lanza and Tom Reich in forming a new law firm, Lanza, Reich and Daniel.
“I am looking forward to maintaining my relationship with the NLL in the capacity as Counsel for the foreseeable future,” Daniel said.
No timetable has been announced for the appointment of a new Commissioner.
During his tenure, Daniel forged a seven-year Collective Bargaining Agreement, negotiated broadcast agreements with TSN, ESPN and other networks, and added corporate partnerships including New Era and Under Armour. Prior to his appointment as Commissioner, Daniel served for seven seasons as NLL Deputy Commissioner & General Counsel. Daniel also served as an NLL team president for the 2007 season.
The 2016 NLL season will begin on January 1.
