NLL Junior Tournament Continues with Rochester Top Seed

Day Two is complete and we’re another step closer to crowing the 2014 Jr. NLL Champions in Peewee, Bantam and Midget. Play resumes on Sunday morning at 9am with the playoff picture becoming clearer as the day progresses at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, ON.

The Jr. Rock Peewees were dominant in the round-robin portion of the tournament and have secured a spot in the semi-final on Sunday morning at 10am against the Jr. Mammoth. The squad, led by coaches Nick Rose and Damon Edwards, posted victories over the Jr. Stealth 16-0 and the Jr. Mammoth 16-5 to finish the preliminary round with a perfect 4-0 record.

In Bantam action, the Jr. Rock had only one round-robin game to play on Saturday and posted a convincing 21-4 win over the Jr. Wings. Jr. Rock forward Josh Dawick finished as the preliminary round scoring leader with 15 goals and 8 assists for 23 points in just 3 games. The Bantams, coached by Rock Owner Jamie Dawick, finished 2-1 and advanced to play the Jr. Rush in the semi-finals.

In that Bantam semi-final, the Jr. Rock and Jr. Rush put on a great display of lacrosse with several of Canada’s top Bantam aged players on the turf. The Jr. Rock held on for a 12-10 win and will play the Jr. Knighthawks in the Bantam Final on Sunday at 5:30pm.

The Midget Jr. Rock finished the round-robin with a 3-0 record and were involved in a thrilling overtime game early in the day. With less than 80 seconds to play, the Jr. Rock scored three times to tie the score 9-9 and send things to overtime with the Jr. Stealth. In OT, the Jr. Rock got a powerplay and scored just 2 minutes into the sudden-death period. Marley Angus scored the tying and winning goals for the Jr. Rock in the incredible come from behind win.

By virtue of a tie-breaker, Rochester clinched the top seed in the Midget Red Division and the Jr. Rock had to play a quarterfinal game on Saturday night. The Jr. Rock won the one-and-done playoff against the Jr. Wings 10-5, earning a spot in the semi-final on Sunday morning at 11am against Jr. Stealth.
