Another exciting weekend of lacrosse….Starting with the Bandits 7 goal fourth qtr to defeat the Rock, Drew Westervelt’s OT goal Saturday night to lift the Wings to their 3rd straight victory, Rochester’s 1 goal victory over the fading Mammoth, Edmonton’s dismantling of the Roughnecks, to the Stealth rise to top seed in west with the swatting of the Swarm. What will this week have install for us? Will the Rock stay on top? Can the Mammoth climb out of the basement, or will the season continue to be a downfall?
Toronto Rock 6-3. Even though the Rock fell to Buffalo 15-13 Thursday night, they hold the #1 spot as the Wings defeated Buffalo. In the last 2 games Toronto has let fourth quarter leads slip away, and their lead in the east is only a half game. Next up for the Rock.. The Colorado Mammoth come to town Friday night 7:30pm.
Washington Stealth 6-4. Don’t look now, but the Stealth have climbed to #2 in the Power Rankings. The Western Conference leaders are winners of 3 of the last 4 games. The Stealth are for real this season. They defeated the Swarm 11-8 Sunday to avoid a three way tie for first. Can they keep the momentum going? Next up, a trip to the east…The Philadelphia Wings are the next target for the Stealth, Saturday night 8pm
Philadelphia Wings 5-3. Wings climb up to #3 this week after a huge 11-10 OT win in Buffalo. After falling behind 6-2 at the half, the Wings outscored Buffalo 8-4 in the second half, and Drew Westervelts OT goal at 2:14 gave the surging Wings their 3rd straight victory, and the season series versus Buffalo. Wings now hold the tiebreaker with the Bandits which always seems to come into play. Next up for the Wings as they go for 4 in a row… The Washington Stealth come to town, and the return of Athan Iannucci Game time 8pm Saturday night.
Buffalo Bandits 5-4. Stay at #4 after a big win in Toronto Thursday night, the Bandits let one slip away as they fell to the Wings in OT, and also lost the season series 2-1… Buffalo looks to rebound this weekend as they remain at home. Next opponent.. Colorado Saturday night 7:30.
Edmonton Rush 5-5 The Rush surge to #5. In one of the biggest surprises of the 2013 season, the Rush move up to #5 and only 1 game out of first place in the West. Their 18-13 victory over Calgary was not as close as the score shows. Rush are on a bye this week as they prepare for a Champions Cup rematch March 16 versus the Knighthawks. This will be their 3rd road game of 5 the final 2 are @ Buffalo March 23rd and @ Toronto March 24th. They are currently 2-0 in this 5 game road trip.
Calgary Roughnecks 5-5 Calgary falls to #6 after losing 3 of the last 4, The Roughnecks where embarrassed at home as Edmonton defeated them 18-13, a few late goals made it look closer then it really was. Calgary is still a strong team, but losing 3 of 4 is very unlike Calgary. Calgary continues their homestand as the Swarm come to town Friday night 9pm
Rochester Knighthawks 4-5. The defending champs climb up to #7 after a nail biting win over the Mammoth. With 7 games left in the season, the Hawks will play 1 game in the next 3 weeks. The Knighthawks are off this week. March 16 at home as Edmonton comes to town for a Champions Cup rematch.
Minnesota Swarm 3-6. Swarm fall to #8. The Swarm have been battling all season with the youth on the team, and now Captain Andrew Suitor gone with an ACL/MCL tear last week really hurts the team. The Swarm fell Sunday 11-8 to Washington. It doesn’t get any easier as they travel to Calgary to face the Roughnecks Friday night at 9pm.
Colorado Mammoth 2-6. The Mammoth have to hold at #9 as their isn’t a lower spot for them to take. In a game they could of won they fall short 12-11 to the defending champion Knighthawks. The Mammoth will now travel east to face Toronto Friday night 7:30, then on Saturday night they will face the Buffalo Bandits. If the Mammoth want to start a push to make the playoffs they must do it now, otherwise there season will be over before April Fools Day.
Look for another exciting weekend!!! Iannucci returns to Philly to face his old mates… Wings look for 4 in a row. Toronto and Buffalo look to rebound against a struggling Mammoth team. Mammoth face rocky road this weekend. Calgary/Minnesota Can the Swarm sting the Riggers?
