NLL: Roughnecks Look for Second Win, Take on Wings

Today the Wings try to rebound from their first loss of the 2013 season as they face the Calgary Roughnecks.

Calgary is coming off a dominating 19-12 victory over the Mammoth Friday night, as the Roughnecks showed how balanced this team truly is.  Calgary was led by Shawn Evans 4G/9A.  But it isn’t only Evans the Wings have to worry about.  Dane Dobbie 4G/3A, Jeff Shattler 3G/5A, Scott Ranger 3G/3A, and Curtis Dickson 3G/2A are very dangerous as well.  Face-off specialist Geoff Snider returns to the Wells Fargo Center after his departure for Calgary three years ago.  Calgary was 7-9 on the power-play Friday night.

The Wings suffered their first defeat last night 14-13 as Bandits forward Luke Wiles scored the game winner with :24 remaining. Former Wings David Brock 2G/2A & Mike Hominuck 3G, did most of the damage.

Wings were led by Kevin Ross 4G/2A.  Drew Westevelt and Jordan Hall scored 3G/3A each.  Leading goal scorer Kevin Crowley was held without a goal but registered 4 assists.  It was another very strong game by the Wings in which there new additions played very well.  Kevin Buchanan notched 1G/4A against his former team.  Wings were out-shot 52-49 and went 3-4 on the power play.

For the Wings to win this afternoon, they need to play disciplined lacrosse as they don’t want to give the Roughnecks any more of an opportunity to score with there fast paced offense. Wings also need to try to neutralize Geoff Snider who is again dominating on the face-offs.

This afternoon’s game will be a test of stamina.  The Roughnecks had to fly from Colorado to Philadelphia and also deal with the time difference, but they have had a full day to recover from the game Friday night.

For the Wings, today will be a true test to see how well the young legs of the American defense of the Wings recover from a game that ended just 18 hours prior to the start of today’s contest.

Keys for a Wings Victory:

1—Capitalize on the odd man rushes
2—Stay out of the penalty box.
3—Minimize Calgarys 2nd & 3rd chances on rebounds
4—Try to neutralize Snider on the draw
5—Most of all…Get a lead…don’t give Calgary a chance to win.
