With NLL training camp now here, you know some of the players trying out. The super stars, solid bets to make a team and the rookie draft picks.
But as it goes every where with camp, some new guys are given a chance. Who are some players you might not have heard of at this year’s camps, or who are making a comeback?
Chris Courtney- Rochester
Courtney was a Knighthawks prospect in 2009, and before that was with the Minnesota Swarm. Courtney played in two NLL games with Minnesota in 2008, and that was his last NLL appearance. He played with the Six Nations Slash of the CanAm League and the Six Nations Chiefs in MSL this summer. He played with the Ohsweken Demons of CLax.
Ben Van Every- Rochester
Van Every played with the Hawks a little bit in 2009, and had been drafted by Chicago two years earlier. He also played with the Kahnawake Mohawks of the QSLL and played in the Presidents Cup. Van Every also played with the Snake Island Muskies of the same league, and the Ohsweken Demons of CLax. He has not played in the NLL since 2009.
Josh Funk- Philadelphia
Funk has 11 career NLL points in 2009 and 2010. Funk played for Ohio State in college and has not played in the NLL since 2010 with the Minnesota Swarm.
Chad Pieper- Philadelphia
Pieper is one of several goalies the Wings are trying out. He has no NLL experience, but the 36 year old has played in Sr A and B and with the Armstrong Shamrocks.
Josh Kacprzak- Rochester
A former Rochester Greywolves player, he will get a chance to play with the big club of Rochester, Kacprzak played with the Newton Golden Eagles of the CanAm league this summer. He has no NLL experience.
Miller Rusbridge- Rochester
Rusbridge has played for Knighthawks coach Mike Hasen in MSL with the Brampton Excelsiors. He was a member of the Peel Avengers in CLax and the Six Nations Arrows Junior A team. He also scored 30 points with the Sr B Oakville Titans last season.
Jordan Van Damme- Rochester
A member of the Wallaceburg Devils this season in Jr B, Van Damme scored 37 points in just ten playoff games. He has played in Wallaceburg for five years.
Andrew Murphy- Calgary
Murphy signed with Calgary after a very strong season with the Tri City Bandits of the Sr B league in British Columbia, scoring 77 points in 19 games in 2012. He was the 2012 playoff MVP of the league and went to the Presidents Cup.
Brad Richardson- Calgary
Richardson has played in the NLL with the Colorado Mammoth in 2011 and 2010. He has played just 15 games in his career and has four points, with just one game for Colorado in 2011. He has played with the Burnaby Lakers and Coquitlam Adanacs in the WLA, and the Denver Pioneers in college. The defender is looking to latch on with Calgary.
Ian Poole- Colorado
Poole plays in the WLA with the Langley Thunder and is trying out for the NLL with the Mammoth. He has played in the Mann Cup with the Thunder and is a solid transition man and face off specialist.
Ryan Learn- Colorado
Learn played with Burlington in 2009 as his Jr A team. He was originally drafted by the Orlando Titans in 2010.
Patrick O’Meara- Washington
Currently playing with the Maple Ridge Burrards, O’Meara had been a high round draft pick with the Langley Thunder. He signed as a free agent with the Stealth after playing juniors with the Coquitlam Adanacs.
Mark Negrin- Washington
Negrin tried out at the Stealth free agent camp and made it to their regular training camp. He plays for the Coquitlam Adanacs in the WLA and is a lefty shooter that the Stealth need.
Ryan Johnson- Washington
Won the 2010 Minto Cup with Coquitlam and currently a member of the WLA Coquitlam Adanacs as a transition player.
