Oakville is about to get a little bit richer when one of the best young forwards in the game, Wesley Berg, takes his scoring abilities east to play for the Rock.
Berg was the top pick in the WLA draft to the Coquitlam Adanacs, an organization that Berg played for his whole Junior A career. In five seasons, Berg put up 252 points (129G, 123A). In the playoffs his numbers were 84G and 98A while playing for many Minto Cup worthy teams that Coquitlam has had over the years.
Berg can score many different ways and that’s why he is going to go very early in the NLL draft this fall. Berg played his college ball at Denver University where he helped the team reach not only the final four the past three seasons but helped his team win the 2015 National Championship. Berg scored 78 points this past spring and had big impact on the NCAA tournament scoring 18 of those points during the four games run which included five goals vs. Maryland in the National Championship and Berg winning tournament MVP honors.
For his pro game as a field lacrosse player, his career started last weekend with the Denver Outlaws where Wes played well, scoring a goal for his very talented team.
When Oakville used one of the MSL draft picks on Wesley Berg people thought that he would not come east to play for the team and certainty not in his rookie year of senior ball. The fact that he will be going to Oakville Rock is huge for the club as they try to win the MSL title this summer. Also, Berg will be teaming up with former DU and current Outlaws teammate Jeremy Noble who is supposed to be back for another season with his hometown Oakville.
