The Calgary Roughnecks are in second place in the Western Division, despite giving up more goals than any team this season. Their offense is still torrid and they look like one of the best teams in the league. I spoke with their goaltender Mike Poulin for this edition of one on one.
MI: How do you feel about the win over Minnesota?
MP: It was a great team win over a very good Minnesota team; I think that team is a lot better than the 3 – 7 record they have so we’re very happy with the win. Our coaching staff put together a strong game plan and for the most part we followed it. Still a lot of things we need to do better if we want to make a deep run this year.
MP: It’s great to have the week off; I’ll spend as much time with family and friends as possible. During the season I spend a lot of time on the road so I’ll mostly be relaxing at home. That being said my trainer has me in the gym every night this week to make sure I don’t relax too much.
MP: For me personally I’d like for that number to be lower; as a team we’re all happy with wins. It’s been a strange year with the number of goals we’ve given up in comparison to years past. But as long as we are playing our best lacrosse at the end of the season and learn from the mistakes we’ve made out the back end, we’ll be happy.
MI: Washington leads the West but you’re right there, how important is it to win the division?
MP: Winning the division is extremely important, playoff games at home is a great advantage and it’s nice to reward your fans. But I’d be happy with a playoff win on the road too so as long as we get into playoffs this year we’ll be ready – at home or away.
