Onondaga Vs. Essex was the biggest matchup of the week and of the season so far. OCC was looking for its 92nd straight win and Essex was looking to take down the Lazars for the first time since 2010.
The Lazars saw big games yet again from freshman Brine Rice: three goals and four points all together. Adam Bomberry, known more for his skills as a defensive midfielder, notched two goals while also playing excellent defense. Tyson Bell, who also is known for his defense as a long pole, got two assists to help the team get the 11-6 win. Others who had great games were faceoff man Sam Watts who only lost five out of the 20 faceoffs he took. Goalie Holden McDonald also made 23 saves, the most he has had all year. For Essex Will Manganiello had another impressive game with three goals to up his numbers to twenty points this season. Goalie Max Edelmann made 16 saves in the contest.
Genesee also got an 11-6 win over a Maryland team in Howard CC. Cyrus Spruce had a five point game for GCC and has 24 points this season. Jacob Bomberry and Cameron Seneca each added two points of their own to get their team the win. Goalie Corey Luty made 10 saves for his team.
Both Onondaga and Genesee will go head to head this week in a highly anticipated Region III match up. Genesee has already blown away both SUNY Delhi and Monroe and are sitting second in the region and fourth in the nation. Onondaga is number one in both and going for 93 straight wins. OCC will get their chances to score but if Corey Luty can stand on his head GCC can have a shot. Otherwise it will be a tough one—Onondaga is just that good.
Nassau and Suffolk play this Friday night in the battle for Long Island and the top rank in the region. Suffolk could not hang when they went on the road to Maryland the other week and Nassau’s offense is very strong. Coach Powers and his assistant coaches know what they want from their players and Nassau do it to perfection. Brandon Watson and Josh Byrne on attack are tough for any defense to match up with.
