Week 4 action of the Philadelphia Box Lacrosse Association started off with a rematch of the 2013 championship game, Outlaws vs Beerwolves. The game was a tough battle between the two teams as it always is when these two teams meet. Cory Malampy led the Outlaws in scoring with three goals while Ryan Binder led the Beerwolves with four. A great game by goaltender Matt Cannon and stellar defensive play paid off for the Beerwolves, who pulled out the 12-10 win. The win extended the Beerwolves winning streak to four games. The Outlaws uncharacteristically are left still looking for their first win of the 2014 campaign.
The second game of the night featured Lacrossewear facing off against the Grim Reapers. This was the second matchup of these two teams of the season with Lacrossewear winning the first game. Monday night’s match was the same result with Lacrossewear doubling up the Reapers, 14-7. Michael Dougherty with five points (four goals, one assist) and Michael Sutton with six (five goals, one assist) to lead Lacrossewear to the win.
Wednesday night started off with Lacrossewear hot off their Monday night win over the Grim Reapers going up against the Philadelphia Thunder. The Thunder were undefeated up to this point with a 2-0 record. After a hot and long battle, when the final bell rung the score was tied 14-14. The PBLA does a shootout instead of a normal overtime. When all was told, Lacrossewear came out on top, handing the Thunder their first loss of the season.
The second game of the night was the Outlaws versus The Edge. The Outlaws looking for their first win of the season, while The Edge was trying to continue their winning ways with a win against the Lacrossewear in their last game. The Outlaws were led by Cory Malampy with seven points (two goals, five assists) and The Edge were led by Mike Forsythe’s four points (two goals, two assists). The Outlaws just had too much for The Edge, pulling out the 13-8 victory. Also helping the Outlaws to victory were Joe Stainer with four points (two goals, two assists) and Walt Bruemmer with three goals.
To preview the Week 5 matchups you have the Grim Reapers facing off against the Philadelphia Thunder. The Reapers trying to get off a three-game losing streak after starting off the season with a win over Wawa, while the Philadelphia Thunder try build on their current win streak. The second Monday night game will feature the Beerwolves going up against Lacrossewear. Wednesday night, Wawa coming off a week bye takes on the Philadelphia Thunder who will be playing their second game of the week, followed by a Grim Reapers versus the Outlaws in the nightcap.
