Peter Baum Won’t Play MLL

10:10 am May 23: It now appears that Peter Baum will instead play with LXM Pro. He signed with Adrenaline Lacrosse and will play for them this summer. He said on the LXM Website:

“I have a great deal of respect and am certainly appreciative of the Ohio Machine for selecting me first in the draft and wish them the best of luck in their season.  My decision to join Adrenaline and LXM PRO has everything to do with my desire to help usher in the new generation of conscientious lacrosse athletes in the areas that I have a personal connection with.  I am excited to play at this high level with so many great players and am equally thrilled to be a part of the mission of Adrenaline and LXM PRO.”

2:54 pm May 22: The first overall pick in the 2013 MLL draft won’t be active in 2013.

The Colgate graduate Peter Baum will be on the Injured Reserve for the entire season after he suffered a meniscus tear. The Colgate Red Raiders were not in the NCAA playoffs but Baum had still not joined the Machine.

Marcus Holman from North Carolina and Logan Schuss from Ohio State will join the Machine this week after their teams were eliminated. “We were looking forward to getting both Peter Baum and Joe Lisicky into the fold with the Machine this season but injuries have gotten in the way. After telling us that he has been battling a meniscus injury, we don’t expect Peter to join the Machine this year. We also expect Joe to apply for a medical redshirt in the offseason after missing most of his senior year due to a lower-body injury,” said  Machine owner John Algie via press release. “There is always an inherent risk with any draft pick, be it injury-, talent- or work-related. We’ve hedged our bets accordingly and are prepared to move forward starting with this game against Hamilton.”

There have been rumors according to reports of Baum playing in the LXM Pro Tour, but he has stated his desire to play in Major League Lacrosse. Baum was the 2012 Tewaaraton award winner with the Raiders.
