Casey Powell has been putting on clinics for years and as for this Major League Lacrosse season, four games in for each team, Casey has been doing just that. On a team that is showing they have a balanced attack on offense, with a strong veteran defense, Casey Powell is fitting right in at his new home with the Launch.
Casey returns to his old stomping grounds this weekend in a match-up against the Rochester Rattlers. Powell has had plenty of success there, so I don’t see this weekend being any different, especially with the way this group has been playing. The Launch sit in second place in the standings behind the undefeated Denver Outlaws after losing at home to Denver in the opening weekend. The Launch will have to wait to get redemption when they travel to Denver July 20.
In four games, Powell has tallied 11 goals while adding 12 assists. Casey, who has always been a pass-first guy, has proved this season to defenses around the league that he hasn’t lost a step. The great No. 22 leads the league in points and assists.
Powell has been able to lead this young group of great players that the Florida Launch has and bring them to be able to go to Chesapeake and beat down the Bayhawks, come from behind and win at home against Ohio, while being able to handle the Charlotte Hounds from the opening faceoff in a Week 2 win. Casey has earned the Warrior Player of the Week award twice this season with strong performances against the Bayhawks and the Machine.
For one of the all-time greatest lacrosse players to ever play, Casey is first-class on and off the field, the ideal face of lacrosse, certainly the face of the Florida Launch organization, and because of him the Launch have put themselves in a position early to make a run into the playoffs.
