Rochester Knighthawks star Johnny Powless is still young enough to be in juniors, and he was named the OLA division MVP yesterday.The Ontario Lacrosse Association Jr A circuit have announced their 2013 season awards, starting with two time NLL champion Johnny Powless of the Six Nations Arrows as league MVP.
Burlington Chiefs defenseman Derek Searle was named the defensive player of the year while top goalie prospect Alexi Buque from the Whitby Warriors earned the goaltender of the year honors.
Rookie of the year went to Dallas Bridle with the Orangeville Northmen.
The all star teams are listed below.
First team
Goalie: Alexis Buque (Whitby Warriors).
Defense: Derek Searle (Burlington Chiefs), Graeme Hossack (Whitby Warriors).
Offense: Johnny Powless (Six Nations Arrows), Dhane Smith (Kitchener-Waterloo Braves), Turner Evans (Peterborough Lakers).
Second team
Goalie: Doug Buchan (Burlington Chiefs).
Defense: Austin Divitcos (Orangeville Northmen), Nick Weiss (Peterborough Lakers).
Offense: Curtis Knight (Whitby Warriors), Randy Staats (Six Nations Arrows), Rob Hellyer (Orangeville Northmen).
Powless and Dhane Smith are both NLL players while Turner Evans is a top prospect for the 2016 NLL draft class. Meanwhile, Curtis Knight and Rob Hellyer are both NLL starters as well while Randy Staats is also a top 2016 prospect. Whitby and Six Nations had the most award winners.
