D.C. Sports & Entertainment, owners of the New Jersey Rascals of the Professional Lacrosse League, announced today that they have elected to go dormant for the upcoming 2012 season. The Rascals were set to be part of the inaugural season of the Professional Lacrosse League, a four-team indoor lacrosse league.D.C. Sports & Entertainment CEO and Rascals President Nicholas Desrosiers said, “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the New Jersey Rascals will not be playing this season. We believe it is in the best interest of our fans, the Sun National Bank Center, our corporate partners and sponsors to take another year to explore the many ways that we can build on the great momentum we are seeing in the Mercer County area.â€
With the sport of lacrosse currently trending as the fastest growing team sport in the USA, hopes are high that the team will be able to continue to grow its fan base and its community partnerships in preparation for a return in 2013.“With another year to prepare we feel that we will be able to sell a significant number of season tickets which will in turn attract even more community partners and sponsors. We also think it will give the PLL the proper time to find a replacement for its commissioner and create several much-needed business and support functions at the league level†added Desrosiers.
The team ownership went on to state “we would like to thank the Sun National Bank Center, our followers, and community sponsors and partners for their loyalty to the Rascals over the past two months. We would also like to thank our staff and our players for their hard work and dedication as we look towards a strong successful future within the gameâ€. Said Ed Desrosiers team COO.
