Two trades have taken place tonight at the Major League Lacrosse draft. First, the New York Lizards acquired David Earl and Steven Waldack to the Hamilton Nationals for the fifth overall pick in the draft.
That fifth overall pick ended up being Josh Hawkins out of Loyola. The Lizards, who have seen a lot of turn over in the past year, pick up an attackman in Earl who put up some solid numbers with Hamilton.
Something to remember here is that Hamilton named Stu Brown their general manager and brought back Dave Huntley as their head coach today, letting Regy Thorpe go. No doubt the change in philosophy has to do with this deal.
Meanwhile, the Rochester Rattlers acquired an eighth round pick from the Chesapeake Bayhawks for Jay Card. Chesapeake, the champions from last season, have few holes so creating some competition at positions is a good thing for them.
