The Rochester Rattlers have announced the naming of team captains for the 2015 MLL season. Returning in a co-captain capacity for the second year will be All World Goalie and the 2014 Goalie of the Year John Galloway. Galloway led the league in 2014 in wins (10) and GAA (11.16). The Syracuse grad also backstopped the Rattlers to the MLL’s best record and an appearance in the MLL Championship game in Atlanta last August, losing a tightly contested game by 1 goal to the Denver Outlaws.
New to the leadership role this year will be Midfielder John Ranagan. Ranagan will be entering his third year with the Rattlers. He comes off a strong season with 13 goals and 22 total points. The Johns Hopkins Alum steps into a large role in replacing the recently retired Kevin Leveille as co-captain.
Ranny, as he is known by teammates and fans alike, is popular as much for his personable and charismatic persona off the field as he is respected for his intensity and talent on field. Standing a sizable 6’ 3” and 218 lbs, his large frame is matched with speed and skill at the Middie position.
When talking about Ranagan, Coach Tim Soudan stated “John Ranagan is the perfect man for the job. He is a hard working team guy who cares as much about the guys around him as any lacrosse player I have ever been around. He will follow in the footsteps of Kevin Leveille and alongside John Galloway, the guys will be in great hands.”
Ranagan is excited about the opportunity to take a larger role in 2015, and when asked he said “It’s an absolute honor to be named a co-captain for the Rattlers this season. It’s certainly some big shoes to fill with Kev retiring, but I think a lot of what he and coach Soudo brought to the team the past few years will continue. We have one of the closest lockerrooms I’ve ever been a part of and I’m just very excited to get back with the guys in training camp. In commenting on the upcoming season Ranagan stated “The 2015 Rattlers will have a ton of familiar faces which will help bring the new guys along and our goal is the same as any team in the MLL – to win a championship. Go Ratz!”
