The Rochester Rattlers needed a win to still control their own destiny. They defeated the Ohio Machine, 14-13. Rochester led most of the game, but Ohio made things interesting later on.
In a game that the Rattlers needed to win, Kevin Leveille and Matt Striebel opened the game with goals for the Rattlers. Leveille and Jordan MacIntosh would also score to close out the first quarter, sandwiching a Chazz Woodson goal for the Machine.
Woodson scored two in the second, so all three Machine first half goals came from Woodson. Rob Rotanz and Ned Crotty scored for Rochester in the second.
Ohio would start to get some action in the third quarter with five goals. Kiel Matisz had two, Connor Martin had two and Woodson would get another one. MacIntosh, Rotanz and Steven Boyle would score for Rochester.
The fourth quarter was a back in forth battle between the two clubs. Woodson would score again for Ohio, before Rochester saw goals from Stroenel and MacIntosh. Rookie Billy Eisenriech then scored for Ohio.
The Machine would make it a two goal game at 14-12 after a two point goal from Martin, his third goal of the night. Matt Casey would score the next goal to bring the Machine within one.
But it was not to be, as Rochester would hold on. This Machine team can be a spoiler in the next two weeks taking on the Cannons, the team Rochester is contending for in the playoffs.
Timmy Fallon dominated Eric O’Brien in the faceoffs for the Rattlers. Ohio had 25 shots on goal while Rochester had 22. The Rattlers will survive, at least for another week.
