Redmen, Lakers Look to Take Series Lead

The Peterborough Lakers will host the Brooklin Redmen Monday, August 12 in a crucial Game 5 matchup. The first round playoff series is currently even at 2-2.

Brooklin established an early stranglehold on the series after capturing victories in the two opening games. Peterborough would eventually get back on track with a commanding 11-3 home win, which was followed up by a one goal road victory off of Jordan Macintosh’s tally with just three seconds remaining in regulation.

After finishing neck and neck in the regular season scoring race, Brooklin’s Shawn Williams and Peteborough’s Shawn Evans have continued their battle for MSL scoring supremacy into the postseason. Williams leads all scorers with 18 points (2g, 16a), while Evans trails closely behind with 17 points (7g, 10a).

Scott Evans has joined his brother in leading Peterborough’s offense during the playoffs. Scott leads the Lakers in goals with eight, including five during Peterborough’s two victories. Josh Gillam has been solid in the series with 16 points (7 g, 9a). Gillam registered nine points in Games 3 and 4, leading all Lakers offensively. Despite having ten points in three appearances, Lakers sniper John Grant Jr. has been held to just one goal in the series.

Brooklin has been led offensively by the veteran pair of Williams and Gavin Prout. Prout is coming off of an eight point performance in Brooklin’s Game 4 loss and has 17 total points in the series. Redmen rookie Mike Melnychenko has been exceptional in his first taste of MSL postseason action. Melnychenko has nine points including a two goal and two assist performance in Game 4.

Face-off for Game 5 is set for 8 p.m. at the Peterborough Memorial Centre, while Game 6 will take place at Iroquois Park Wednesday, August 14 at 8 p.m.
