The inevitable had been delayed long enough. After months of speculation, the Edmonton Rush will move to Saskatoon.
Global News in Canada broke the story tonight that the Rush will have a press conference next Tuesday announcing the move.
The Rush are coming off of their first Champions Cup just six weeks ago. Before they won, there had been speculation it would be their last season. Owner Bruce Urban had been vocal, citing the city’s lack of support as a reason for relocating.
The Rush had been in Edmonton for ten seasons, but with the NHL’s Oilers moving out of Rexell Place, the Rush were not invited to move.
The Oilers had attempted to buy the Rush several times but it fell through. Urban had been seen often in Saskatoon when reports of possible relocation began.
The Rush or the league themselves are yet to comment on the report, and there should be more news throughout the rest of the week. More to come as the news filters in.
