The Colorado Mammoth sent a press release this morning announcing the retirement of defenseman Richard Morgan from the National Lacrosse League.
At six-foot-eight-inches and 260 pounds, transition player Richard Morgan was literally a man among boys in the National Lacrosse League. Morgan, and two of his brothers, were gifted athletes whose size intimidated and skill elevated them to the professional ranks. On Wednesday, the 34-year-old called it a career.
“Playing in the NLL was an amazing experience,” said Morgan. “I love the game.”
The game loved him right back. Ten seasons and four teams later, Morgan looks back on 84 goals and 77 assists in 150 career games. He appeared in seven postseasons and reached the championship game once. The Mammoth-sized player’s last message to his teammates?
“I wish you guys the best of luck. Go win one!”
