Toronto Rock President, Owner & GM Jamie Dawick announced today the move of NLL leading scorer Rob Hellyer to the Injured Reserve – First Level. The transaction is retroactive to March 22nd and Hellyer must serve 10 days on the IR. He would be eligible to come off the IR, if cleared by team physicians, in time for the Rock’s next home game on April 3rd against Rochester.
Late in the first half of Saturday’s loss to Edmonton, while the Rock were on the power play, Hellyer suffered an upper body injury and did not return to the game. After further evaluation, it was determined that Hellyer would not be able to play this weekend in Calgary.
Taking his place on the Active Roster is 2014 NLL 4th round draft pick Brandon Benn. The offensive righty from Orangeville, ON was in a tight battle with Brett Hickey throughout training camp for the final offensive active roster spot but was placed on the practice roster to begin the season.
Benn has a high lacrosse IQ and a deadly shot. He was a member of the 2012 Minto Cup Canadian Jr. A Champion Orangeville Northmen and scored 40 goals in his senior year of NCAA Division I lacrosse playing at Johns Hopkins in 2014.
