The Toronto Rock have re-signed defender Rob Marshall to a one-year contract General Manager Terry Sanderson announced on Thursday. The Rock have also signed unrestricted free agent forward Brandon Ivey to a one-year agreement. Â Both contracts are pending league approval.
Marshall, a 7-year NLL veteran, played his first season in Toronto in 2006 after playing his entire Junior lacrosse career with the Elora Junior B Mohawks capturing a Founders Cup Canadian Junior B Championship in 2005. The Arthur, Ontario native was a member of the 2011 Toronto Rock Champion’s Cup winning team and has played his entire NLL career with the Rock.
“Rob has been a core member of the defensive group and made significant contributions here for a long time,†said Sanderson.  “He’s got the speed and athleticism to defend anyone in the league and is a very valuable part of our defence.â€
The Rock also added some depth on the offensive side of the ball with the signing of the 22-year old Ivey. Â The left-handed shooter from Orangeville, ON played for the Calgary Roughnecks in 2011 after being selected in the 1st round, 8th overall in the 2010 NLL Entry Draft. Â He appeared in 3 games, scoring once and adding an assist. Â After being re-signed prior to the 2012 season, Ivey failed to earn a roster spot with Calgary and was released.
Ivey has a connection to the Rock coaching staff. Â Assistant Coach Matt Sawyer coached Ivey while he was a member of the Orangeville Junior A Northmen. Â Ivey captured a pair of Minto Cup Canadian Junior A Championships with the Northmen, winning in 2008 and 2009.
The Rock roster continues to take shape leading up to the opening of training camp in December at the new Toronto Rock practice facility in Oakville, ON.
