Last night the Toronto Rock (6-2) took on the Calgary Roughnecks (4-3) The Rock looked to keep their winning ways alive and keep control of the eastern conference.
In the first period the Roughnecks came out blazing as Dane Dobbie led the offense with a hat trick while Jeff Shattler and Peter McFetridge scored to give the Roughnecks the lead. The Rock were able to stay close though as their trio of Sanderson, Billings and Doyle all scored to make the score 5-3 at the end of the first. In the second period the Roughnecks added an early goal to make the score 6-3 but their offense then fell apart as they would not score for the rest of the period. Toronto would take control of the game Garrett Billings scored a hat trick while Mike Hobbins and Casey Beirnes chipped in as the Rock took an 8-6 lead at half.
In the second half the Rock’s offense continued to roll as they dominated the period scoring 6 more goals in order to take a commanding 14-7 lead. Calgary would fight back near the end of the period as Dane Dobbie and Dan MacRae scored to try and get the Roughnecks back in the game the score was 14-9 at the end of the third. In the fourth the Rock would not slow down as they added to their league with three more goals and were able to keep the Roughnecks at bay as the Rock walked away with a 17-12 win.
The stars of this game were Nick Rose who made 46 saves and was able to bounce back from a rough first period in order to allow the Rock to take control of this game. Billings was also phenomenal as he had 6 goals and 4 assists in leading the Rocks explosive attack. The Rock look like they are the beast of the east and look to be one of the most dominant teams this year. Dane Dobbie did his best to keep the Roughnecks in this game with his 5 goal and 2 assist night but the Roughnecks second period offensive collapse is what cost them this game the Roughnecks need to go back to the drawing board and rebound as they are better than their 4-3 record.
