Toronto – Rock General Manager Terry Sanderson announced the signings of three players on Friday. Veteran defencemen Drew Petkoff and Scott Johnston along with free agent defender Kyle Andrews have all signed one-year agreements covering the 2013 season pending league approval.
Petkoff missed all but 3 regular season games in 2012. He returned to action with the Rock early in the season after fully recovering from major knee surgery as a result of an injury sustained in 2011. Petkoff had a goal and an assist in his 3 games last season and also collected 13 loose balls.
Oakville, Ontario native Scott Johnston was originally signed as a free agent to the Rock’s practice roster in 2012. With injuries mounting, Johnston was moved to the Rock’s active roster later in the season and worked his way into 3 games scoring once and adding a pair of assists.
Andrews was selected by the Rochester Knighthawks in the third round of the 2011 NLL Entry Draft but failed to land a spot with the Knighthawks in 2012. The 22-year old native of Georgetown, Ontario split his junior lacrosse with his hometown Halton Hills Junior B Bulldogs and the Brampton Junior A Excelsiors.
Earlier in the week the Rock placed the franchise tag on Colin Doyle and Josh Sanderson for 2013. The team also re-signed goaltenders Nick Rose and Zak Boychuk along with defender Damon Edwards to one-year contracts.
