The Calgary Roughnecks have agreed to terms with seven players as well as designating Geoff Snider as a franchise player in preparation for the 2014 National Lacrosse League season.
The Roughnecks have re-signed forwards Jeff Shattler (three years) and Dane Dobbie (one year) and defencemen Jon Harnett (two years) and Dan MacRae (two years). Calgary also signed 2013 draft selections Garrett McIntosh (third round, 24th overall) and Jake Hayes (fifth round, 43rd overall) and free agent Cody Hawkins to one-year contracts. In addition, forward Curtis Dickson and transition player Peter McFetridge have received qualifying offers.
Snider, a native of Calgary, Alberta, finished the 2013 regular season with a league-leading 310 face-off wins, 235 loose balls and 69 penalty minutes over 15 games played. The 32-year-old transition player has appeared in 43 games over the past three seasons with Calgary, recording 68 points (37 goals, 31 assists), 821 face-off wins (first among all franchise players) and 198 penalty minutes along with collecting 638 loose balls over that span. Snider spent four seasons with the Philadelphia Wings before the Roughnecks acquired him in August 2010.
Forwards Jeff Shattler (33 goals, 41 assists) and Dane Dobbie (40 goals, 32 assists) finished the 2013 regular season in the top-3 in team scoring. Named the Transition Player of the Year in 2011, Shattler has recorded 155 goals and 225 assists for 380 points over 111 games played with Calgary and holds the franchise record for most loose balls at 774. Dobbie, selected by Calgary in the first round, fourth overall, in 2007, has spent his entire six-year NLL playing career with the Roughnecks. The Elora, Ontario product has recorded 360 points, including 183 goals, and collected 272 loose balls in 78 games.
Dan MacRae, an Oakville, Ontario native, has recorded four goals and 20 assists for 24 points while collecting 175 loose balls over 46 games played. The Roughnecks selected the 25-year-old defenseman in the first round, sixth overall, in the 2010 NLL Entry Draft.
Over three seasons with Calgary, Jon Harnett, an Orangeville, Ontario product, has registered 22 points (three goals, 19 assists) along with collecting 113 loose balls. The Roughnecks acquired the 25-year-old defenseman in August 2010.
