Roughnecks Top Wings, Even Record to 2-2

As the 2013 season started the Philadelphia Wings won their first 2 games surprising many lacrosse experts. After a heartbreaking loss in Buffalo Saturday night, the Wings returned home only to be defeated 16-8 by the Calgary Roughnecks.  The Roughnecks where led by Dane Dobbie 4G/2A, Curtis Dickson 3G/2A, and former Wing Geoff Snider 3G/1A.

The game did not start off well for the Wings as 15 seconds into the game Geoff Snider won the face-off and went uncontested to the net scoring the first of his three goals.  Calgary proceeded to score the only four goals of the quarter to lead 4-0 after the first 15 minutes.  The second quarter was basically a repeat of the first with the Roughnecks scoring four more times to take an 8-2 lead at the half.  The Wings only two goals in the half came off the stick of Paul Rabil.

When the third quarter started it seemed the Wings finally got their legs under them, Kevin Crowley and Kevin Ross tallied two goals each to spark a 5 goal 3rd quarter to cut the lead to 10-7.  As the 4th quarter started Paul Rabil tallied his third goal of the game and season bringing the Wings deficit to two at 10-8, but that would be as close as the Wings would get.  Calgary would go on a six goal run.  The first 3 goals being scored in 1:38 , and the second set of three goals scored in 1:29 to close the game out.

Kevin Croswell got the start but was chased from the net at the 4:21 mark of the second quarter after allowing 7 goals on 20 shots.  Wings were led by Paul Rabil 3G/2A and Kevin Crowley 2G/3A.  Wings were outshot 52-50 and went 3-7 on the power play.  Calgary was 4-7 on the man advantage.

The Wings are off til Feb 8th for an 11 am matchup at home with the Rochester Knighthawks.   The Roughnecks with face the young Edmonton Rush on Saturday evening.
