When a professional sports team drafts a home town player it always makes the headlines. In a sport like lacrosse, it does all the more.Ben Snider is from Edmonton and grew up playing Alberta lacrosse. He has played the last two seasons with the Jr Delta Islanders in British Columbia, but doesn’t forget Edmonton is where he comes from.
“I am very excited as I’m from Edmonton and I’ve been going to their games for a long time.” Snider told us. “They are a good, young team with a lot of potential. I think their best years are yet to come.”
At 6’3 and 215lbs, Snider brings terrific size to the Rush on defense. The Rush have a pretty deep defense, especially with the addition of Nik Bilic from Minnesota, but Snider should be able to find a place with the Rush.
When asked about what he brings to the team, he told us “some size and grit as well as a great work ethic. Im a big team guy and I try to learn as much as I can so I can contribute to the club.”
As all of the players we have spoken with have said, it was a dream come true getting drafted. “It’s a hard feeling to describe other than its a dream come true for me”
Snider, as a left handed defender, will have to battle with fellow draftee Reid Mydske along with Mike Cudmore and Jeff Cornwall for a roster spot.
