Normally, expansion teams struggle in their first year in a league. Even in a smaller league like the Midwest Indoor Lacrosse Association, seeing a brad new team dominate is a little bit surprising.
That’s why the Colorado Sabertooths season is a bit shocking. The only other team to go undefeated is the Grand Rapids Dragonfish, last season’s champion and they have some NLL players on that team.
Colorado was going to be well managed from the beginning; they are supported by the ownership group of the Colorado Mammoth, and former NLL great Brian Langtry is the head coach.
The Sabertooths finished 5-0, locking up the Central West Division’s title. They scored 106 goals to lead their division and the 25 goals against is the least given up by any team in the league.
On Saturday afternoon, the ‘Tooths blew out the Chicago Outlaws 17-5. Chicago finishes two games back of Colorado. Then on Sunday they destroyed the Milwaukee Marauders, 20-3.
Colorado will play in the playoffs and at some point, they will probably match up with the also undefeated Dragonfish. It’s been a great year for the first season Sabertooths.
