Schuss’ scoring spree, McIntosh finding twine, and an NLL first for Poppleton highlight a quiet week in NLL rookie action.
The Minnesota Swarm split a pair of road games over the weekend, losing 14-12 Friday night to the Toronto Rock before defeating the Philadelphia Wings 15-14 the following evening.
The scoring talents of Logan Schuss were on display during the Swarm’s weekend road trip, notching 13 points in two games. After quietly posting six points (1 G, 5 A) in a loss to the Rock, the former Ohio State Buckeye exploded offensively versus the Wings (5 G, 2 A) while garnering Game MVP nods in the win. Schuss is currently tied with Jordan MacIntosh for the team lead in goals with 16, while sitting third on the Swarm statistically with 31 points on the year.
After failing to crack the line-up in the loss to Toronto, Scott Jones finished with one goal and one assist versus Philadelphia.
Philadelphia rookie Michael Poppleton dressed his first NLL game in the Wings’ loss to the Swarm. The Fayetteville-Manlius, NY native finished his debut with one assist, while winning 13 of 27 face-offs and scooping up six loose balls. Garret Thul had two goals in the loss, bringing his season total to 11.
The Calgary Roughnecks took down the Rochester Knighthawks, emerging with an 11-10 home win.
Karsen Leung continued his impressive rookie campaign for the Roughnecks, finishing with two points (1 G,1 A). The Bellarmine alum also picked up six loose balls in the win bringing his season total to 39, the most of any Calgary player other than Geoff Snider. Rookie Garret McIntosh netted the first goal of his NLL career against Rochester.
