The Victoria Shamrocks continue their active off season this morning, acquiring goaltender Matt Vinc from the Brampton Excelsiors.
Vinc, a two time NLL goalie of the year and current Rochester Knighthawk, is the second big pickup for the Shamrocks after they had signed shooter Scott Ranger, a member of the Calgary Roughnecks.
This move is big for the Shamrocks who have struggled with goaltending since they lost Anthony Cosmo seven years ago, with Matt Flindell as their last ‘tender.
Vinc has several awards to his resume; two time NLL goalie of the year, NLL 2012 Champion, Team Canada gold medal winner and the winner of two Minto Cups. He is currently the NLL league leader in goals against average with the Knighthawks.
“If you asked coaches and general managers in the WLA, the Major Series in Ontario and the NLL, which goaltender they’d want to have in their net when the chips are down and a championship is on the line, there aren’t many, and may not be any, who’d get more votes than Matt Vinc,” said Shamrocks general manager Chris Welch in the press release.
