On Sunday night the Victoria Shamrocks faced off against the Burnaby Lakers in game four of their playoff series. Victoria was looking to secure the sweep of this series and book a date against the Langley Thunder in the WLA final. Burnaby on the other hand were fighting to survive.
Like the previous three games in this series the Shamrocks took control of this game early. Corey Small, Corey Conway, and Matt Yager would score consecutively to give the Shamrocks a 3-0 lead. Burnaby would cut the lead to two as Dane Stevens scored. Stevens has been the heart of this Burnaby team and consistently has scored when his team has needed him. The Shamrocks would restore their three goal lead as Corey Small scored his second goal of the game in order to put the Shamrocks up 4-1 after the first period of play.
The second period started off exactly the same way as the first period except this time it was Rhys Duch scoring back to back goals followed by a goal from Derek Lowe to put the Shamrocks up 7-1. Once again the Lakers would score after the Shamrocks offensive onslaught as Colton Clark scored to make it 7-2. The period started exactly like the first and ended exactly like the first as Corey Small scored as the period came to a lose and the Shamrocks went into the third period with an 8-2 lead.
In the third period Burnaby’s offense woke up as Colton Clark and Dane Stevens scored to cut the lead to four and put the Lakers right back in this game. The Shamrocks would make it a five goal game again as Jesse King scored to put the Shamrocks up 9-4. Burnaby would not give up as Scott Jones scored to once again cut the Shamrocks lead to four. The Shamrocks would once again have the answer for Burnaby as Brody Eastwood scored to make it 10-5. Burnaby would attempt a late comeback as Jackson Decker scored a pair of goals to cut the lead to two and make it 10-7. Victoria would hold off Burnaby and secure the series sweep with a 10-7 win.
With the Shamrocks win the WLA final has been set as the Shamrocks will take on the Langley Thunder in the WLA final. This matchup was predicted from the first game of the WLA season and will be a clash of the titans. Expect the final to have plenty of fireworks as these two offensive teams go head to head.
